PITTSBURGH - May 11, 2015 - PRLog -- PITTSBURGH, PA - Mesh Lab : The Experiments - reflects Atticus Adams’ (http://www.atticusadams.com/) perspective on his studio as a, “laboratory for experimenting with metal mesh.” This beautiful medium, and his centrally-used material in aluminum, bronze, copper, and stainless steel, “continues to surprise and inspire me” which is a primary attribute revealed in his June 4th solo exhibition. Astute newcomers and long-time enthusiasts of Atticus’ work will notice new elements incorporated into his intricate works such as illumination from inside. The exhibition is a representation of Atticus taking his practice of serious play to a higher level. His method of ‘intuitive hands-on play’ directs the artist’s working process into a pattern of self conversation as he models his work - almost entirely by hand. This pattern is explained by his strongest inspirations: “visual impressions beginning in childhood and have continued with different life experiences.”

To see Atticus Adams work in person is to experience an environment that is rich with whimsy and that generates a creative/intellectually stimulating atmosphere where natural phenomena comes to mind. His progression as an artist is careful and with an element of precision. Mesh Lab : The Experiments welcomes the viewer to explore alongside the artist - his experiments with color, texture and technique processes. Atticus creates a world within a walled space that is uniquely emotional, compelling and invigorating, due partially to the overlooked industrial material he employs.

Adams grew up in West Virginia in a family with a love of crafts but no exposure to fine art. During college at West Virginia University while studying Chemistry a trip to DC and a Picasso retrospective ultimately changed his track. This led Adams to an architecture program at Harvard where the artist developed his love of model making and metal screen. A desire to further his creative depth took the artist to Tidewater Community College and RISD; but a summer sculpture class at Yale amplified his interpretation of sculpture, “not just people statues,” and reignited his passion for working with metal mesh.

Adams has exhibited across the country as a solo artist and in group shows - his collector base extends from the Northeast to Los Angeles and Palm Springs. More recently he returned from New York where he showed at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show with artist collective 412 Made. Adams upcoming projects include leading a workshop at the nationally renowned Touchstone Center for Crafts. The artist now lives in a beautifully appointed loft in Pittsburgh’s creative borough of Lawrenceville with his husband Garry and parrot Congo.
