Follow on Google News | LingQ’s Language Proficiency Test - Try It Just For FunLanguage proficiency tests let you measure your command of a language
By: LingQ LingQ’s proficiency test is intended to measure people’s command in a language for all levels of learners. So far LingQ offers English for Spanish, French, Russian, German and Portuguese speakers as well as Spanish, French, Russian, German and Portuguese for English speakers. More language pairs will be added in the future. The test consists of two main activity types, depending on the level being tested. Beginner levels are purely multiple choice, and Advanced levels are purely fill-in-the- While the tests are intended to measure general ability in a language, they are also meant to be entertaining. When a learner finishes the test, they will see an estimate of the number of words they know, and also what their “avatar” on LingQ - a graphical representation of their learning - might look like. The test is available to everyone visiting www.lingq.com. There is no need to create an account. It is free, fun and can be taken multiple times. Polyglot and LingQ co-founder Steve Kaufmann says: ”We all like a challenge, and we like to have a sense of where we stand. We wanted a fun way for people to test their ability in languages they are learning. This should give people a chance to measure themselves and compare themselves with their friends. I have no doubt that this test and its results will provoke much discussion from those taking it. The nature of language testing is such that there is no perfect test. We wanted something that people could enjoy and which would spark the conversation around language learning. If, after taking this test, people become inspired to learn or improve in a foreign language, we have achieved our goal.” The test will be available on www.lingq.com and can also be used on any mobile device through the various browsers.
