METAvivor and The Metastasis Research Society Announce New Strategic Alliance for Metastatic Cancer Research
Alliance will kick-off during the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - April 16, 2015 - PRLog -- Today METAvivor, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to changing the lives of patients with metastatic breast cancer, and The Metastasis Research Society (MRS), an international non-profit organization that promotes the exchange of information and research into metastasis, announced the establishment of the Strategic Alliance for Metastatic Cancer Research.
METAvivor and the MRS will celebrate the new Alliance during the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA from April 18 – 22, 2015. Presidents Jonathan Sleeman (MRS) and Lori Marx-Rubiner (METAvivor) invite attendees to visit the METAvivor AACR exhibit or MRS gathering (April 20th, 8:00 to 10:00 pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown Room 409) to learn more.
“Our goal is to forge an alliance between patient advocates and researchers to promote, fund and pursue metastatic research that will improve and extend the lives of cancer patients who have metastatic disease,” said Jonathan Sleeman, President of the Metastasis Research Society. “These aims are being achieved through a range of joint ventures, activities and information exchanges.”
Participation in the Strategic Alliance for Metastatic Cancer Research is open to other groups who are “In it for LIFE,” the Alliance’s mantra which represents the patient advocates and researchers whose primary focus is on active metastasis research that will benefit patients who are living with a metastasized cancer of any kind.
METAvivor Research and Support Inc. is an Annapolis-based, 501(c)(3) all-volunteer non-profit organization founded by metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients in 2009. METAvivor’s priority is to award grants to individuals with clinical or doctoral degrees, via a scientific peer-review process, who are focused in areas of metastatic breast cancer research and whose proposals show distinct promise in making a different for the MBC community. It is the only organization of its kind. METAvivor raises MBC awareness and offers patients and others the opportunity to join their pro-active effort.
