By: Don Barnhart Entertainment Finding Your Funny goes beyond Barnhart’s own journey and shares the brutal, often overlooked experience and advice of other comedians, entertainers, managers, agents and bookers. The book includes a no holds barred assessment about what clubs, venues and agents are looking for as well as many of the things you need to do and avoid if you’re looking to making comedy a career. With over 25 of road experience as a comedian, comedy coach and booker, Don Barnhart’s book offers great for the novice, professional comedian and comedy fan. It includes personal tragedies, anecdotes and stories one can only get from living a life on the road. Barnhart, who founded The Las Vegas Comedy Institute where he teaches stand up, improv and comedy writing was inspired to write the book after the success of the documentary on his stand up comedy class, Finding The Funny directed by John Bizarre. “Finding Your Funny began as an outline for my comedy class”, said Barnhart in a recent phone interview where was performing overseas for the troops. Some of the topics in Finding Your Funny are: Can You Teach Funny, The High Cost of Fame, Getting Booked, Hurdles and Pitfalls, The Truth About Managers, Agents and Other Oddities, Joke Police and When, If Ever To Throw In The Towel. Barnhart added, “I tried to answer all the questions I wish I had when I was first starting out. I wanted to give a variety of opinions as there is no one, hard set rule but there are some guidelines to success.” In Finding The Funny the filmmakers explore the question, “Can you teach funny?” and follows the comedic process of one of Barnhart’s comedy classes and features interviews with Brad Garrett, Louie Anderson, Wendy Leibman, Marty Allen and more. Besides, Finding The Funny, Barnhart just finished writing the script for the new comedy, Freeloader, which is scheduled to begin shooting in and around Las Vegas in the fall of 2015. He is a contributing author on I Killed and is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory in Los Angeles. Over the last year, comedian Don Barnhart has crossed over into the film market and has really been gaining steam. He is currently filming the documentary Reefer Rendum, a serious yet comedic look at the legalization of Marijuana and plays a disgruntled, road weary comedian in the upcoming comedy film, Tribute To Fluffy. The Las Vegas Review Journal recently named Don Barnhart’s comedy show one of their “Best Bets” and last year, he was one of the headliners of the 2014 Laughlin Comedy Festival alongside Larry The Cable Guy, Dana Carvey and Maryellen Hooper. Barnhart recently returned for the Middle East where he was once again entertaining the troops. Since his first USO tour back in 1992, Barnhart continues to perform and produce comedy shows for the troops around the world bringing both celebrities and the next generation of comedy superstars to the men and women serving in the armed forces. In 2007, Don was the Grand Champion in The American Idol Underground Comedy Contest and has been seen on MTV, Star Search, and Evening At The Improv and has been featured on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.
