InsideClimate News Announces Staff Additions, Changes

Two senior hires strengthen newsroom team and digital prowess of expanding nonprofit operation.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - March 18, 2015 - PRLog -- InsideClimate News is pleased to announce additions and changes to its growing editorial team in its continuing dedication to elevating the reporting of climate, energy and environmental issues.

Lynn Zinser joined the staff yesterday as audience engagement editor, soon after Neela Banerjee joined ICN in January as Washington-based energy and environment reporter.

Ms. Banerjee spent the prior four years as the energy and environmental reporter for the Los Angeles Times' Washington bureau. She also previously worked for The New York Times, covering global energy, the Iraq War and other issues, and for the Wall Street Journal, as a foreign correspondent in Moscow. Ms. Banerjee graduated from Yale and grew up mostly in south Louisiana.

Ms. Zinser comes to ICN from The New York Times, where she spent 11 years as an editor, reporter and producer, deeply involved in the evolution to a digital-first newsroom as a part of the website's editorial team. She has also worked as a reporter for several newspapers, including The Star-Ledger in Newark, the Colorado Springs Gazette, the Philadelphia Daily News, the Charlotte Observer and Memphis Commercial Appeal. A graduate of Syracuse University, Ms. Zinser grew up in Rochester, N.Y.

"We're building a sustainable, permanent home for environmental journalism to cover one of the most important stories of this century," said David Sassoon, the publisher of ICN. "Neela and Lynn bring deep experience and uncommon talent to our operation, and we can't be more delighted they've come aboard."

Also in January, Naveena Sadasivam joined the staff as a researcher/reporter following a year-long internship at ProPublica, and Alexander Wood became business development associate, a newly created position, following a successful internship at ICN.

These staff additions follow an editorial leadership change at the end of 2014 when ICN co-founder Stacy Feldman stepped into the role of Executive Editor. She succeeded Susan White who over the last 3 ½ years helped lead the organization to earn national recognition.

"It's an exciting time for non-profit journalism, for climate and energy reporting, and for our small operation," said Ms. Feldman. "We've been publishing for more than seven years, but in the bigger picture we're just getting going."

InsideClimate News was founded in 2007 with the mission to produce clear, objective and effective stories to inform the public and decision-makers as they navigate the heat and emotion of climate and energy debates. ICN was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2013.
