“Shark Tank” Entrepreneur and Forensic Pathologist to Speak to GA-PCOM Students

Dr. Lewis struck a deal that turned the physician into a businessman.

SUWANEE, Ga. - March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- Physician and businessman James Lewis, DO, will speak to students at Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) about “Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship” as part of the College’s Diversity Speaker Series on March 19. The series provides insight and understanding about multicultural issues to the College community.

In January 2013, Dr. Lewis appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank.” The show gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to five multimillionaire “sharks,” who decide whether to invest in the company. Featured for his Wall Rx innovation – a “three-step prescription” for repairing holes in drywall – Dr. Lewis agreed to a $150,000 deal in exchange for foreign rights to his product. The pathologist explained that he came up with the product after accidently punching a hole in the wall with his family’s artificial Christmas tree. After paying what he considered too much for the repair, he designed an easy and affordable solution. Last year, Dr. Lewis negotiated a deal that put Wall Rx in Lowe’s and The Home Depot stores across the country.

Aside from his business ventures, Dr. Lewis is currently a pathologist in Exton, Pennsylvania, and affiliated with Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. He has been practicing medicine for 32 years. Previously, Dr. Lewis served as Chairman of the International Institute of Forensic Science and worked in legal, business and entertainment arenas. He has consulted on shows including “X-files,” “America’s Most Wanted” and worked as the chief forensic consultant for NBC during the O.J. Simpson and JonBenét Ramsey trials.

Born in North Philadelphia, Dr. Lewis is a forensic pathologist who graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1982. He finished his residency at Hahnemann/Drexel University and was later selected to be one of just two medical fellows to attend the University of Pennsylvania Forensic Pathology Program.
