“We were really floored by the support,” says Dr. Kim Culbertson, the veterinarian who founded the spay/neuter charity. “With today being Global Spay Day, we are celebrating that accomplishment and continuing to share our message about the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce pet overpopulation.” As a result of MN SNAP’s frantic pace and the sheer magnitude of demand, its mobile unit, with more than 140,000 miles on it, has taken quite a beating. That’s no surprise since the 501 (c) 3 organization has provided and performed more than 60,000 subsidized spay/neuter surgeries since its inception. Surgeries are scheduled seven days a week, 50 weeks a year, and more than 41,000 were performed in the mobile unit. “Every year, three or more veterinary staff have walked and stood on the floor for thousands of hours,” explains Dr. Kim. “Every day, equipment is moved around or dragged in and out by four employees, and thousands of dogs walk—and poop and pee—on the floor each year.” “Every single appliance or piece of equipment, from overhead light fixtures to the water heater to the generator, has been replaced at least once,” says Dr. Kim. “It was time for a new floor, and we want to thank all those who donated to make that a reality.” ABOUT MN SNAP MN SNAP’s mission is to help end the suffering and death of companion animals in Minnesota due to pet overpopulation by providing high-quality, affordable and accessible spay and neuter services to those in need. Since its founding in 2010, Dr. Kim and her staff of veterinarians and technicians have provided more than 60,000 subsidized surgeries, preventing more than 150,000 first-generation births. Recognized as one of the top nonprofit organizations of 2014, MN SNAP is ranked as the #2 high impact animal welfare organization in Minnesota, according to experts surveyed by Philanthropedia.
