Premier Source Marketing Group on the Value of Setting Goals

LOMBARD, IL – Premier Source Marketing Group’s director of operations discusses the importance of setting goals for both an organization and the people in it.

LOMBARD, Ill. - Jan. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- “There’s no such thing as coasting in the business world,” said Paul, the firm’s director. “An organization has to change and grow just to survive. Once you become complacent, you start to fade. This is why I think it’s crucial to have goals, not only for myself but for Premier Source Marketing Group as well.”

According to Paul, it’s possible and necessary to set objectives for every division of an organization. He says that his company has goals for team growth, customer satisfaction, turnover, and profits. They give him and his team a way to measure performance, and a focal point around which everyone can connect.

“Once these are set and we can measure our success against them, it allows us to act much more decisively,” Paul explained. “For example, when we have a six-month goal for new client acquisition, and we’re not halfway there at three months, we know to step up our game. That kind of information would not be as apparent if we weren’t working toward a specific result in the first place.”

Premier Source Marketing Group on Imagining the Perfect Day

“There’s a lot of advice out there about how to develop and accomplish personal objectives, but there is one crucial first step that everyone must take. If you want to realize anything, you’ve got to have a clear vision for it first. It’s all about knowing what you want,” Paul stated.

According to Paul, a lot of people are uncertain about what they want their lives to be like. To remedy this, he has an exercise he uses to help himself and his associates at Premier Source Marketing Group develop and maintain pictures of what they desire to accomplish, with whom, and when. He calls it the perfect day exercise.

“First, I have people write down a paragraph or two describing their perfect days. These won’t always be the same; they will evolve as the individuals do – this is important to remember, since this exercise can be used over and over again,” explained Paul. “I ask them to get very specific, exploring the days with their senses – what they taste, what they see, and what they hear. Also, I want them to think about their emotions, and with whom they are spending their time. The clearer these pictures are, the more effective the second part of the exercise will be.”

Paul continued, “Then we work backwards by thinking about everything that has to happen for these days to occur. If we can, we quantify the goals because they are easier to measure than qualitative ones. We keep working backwards until we can come up with monthly, weekly, and then daily objectives. From there, it’s possible to create a daily goal schedule that will set him or her on the path toward achieving the perfect day.”
