Vaahak – The First Batteries Dedicated to E-rickshaws in India

NEW DELHI - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Have you seen an e-rickshaw lately? There are high chances you’ve come across one. E-rickshaws are on the rise across the country. These rickshaws run on electricity instead of fuel and are a very good option when it comes to reducing the pollution levels.

Like their normal three wheeler counterparts, these e-rickshaws are powered by batteries. So battery manufacturers are researching on the various options to come up with batteries for these e-rickshaws. Conventionally, these batteries would be imported from China. But now there are local options too. While other Indian battery manufacturers are in a research phase, SF Sonic has already introduced Vaahak, a battery tailor-made for e-rickshaws in November 2014. The origin of this word lies in the Sanskrit word “Vaahan”, which means both conveyance and vehicle. Just as the e-rickshaws are meant to provide easy, pollution-free conveyance, the SF Sonic Vaahak batteries are meant to serve these e-rickshaws exclusively.

Now let’s press the rewind button. Do the words “Electric Car” ring a bell? Precisely. The electric car was the seed behind the e-rickshaws of today.  It’s hard to pinpoint the invention of the electric car to one inventor or country. Instead it was a series of breakthroughs - from the battery to the electric motor - in the 1800s that led to the first electric vehicle on the road.

In the early part of the century, innovators in Hungary, the Netherlands and the United States - including a blacksmith from Vermont - began toying with the concept of a battery-powered vehicle and created some of the first small-scale electric cars. And while Robert Anderson, a British inventor, developed the first crude electric carriage around this same time, it wasn’t until the second half of the 19th century that French and English inventors built some of the first practical electric cars.

The first successful electric car made its debut in the US at around 1890 thanks to William Morrison, a chemist who lived in Des Moines, Iowa. His six-passenger vehicle capable of a top speed of 14 miles per hour was little more than an electrified wagon, but it helped spark interest in electric vehicles.
Over the next few years, electric vehicles from different automakers began popping up across the U.S. New York City even had a fleet of more than 60 electric taxis. By 1900, electric cars were at their heyday, accounting for around a third of all vehicles on the road. During the next 10 years, they continued to show strong sales. More than a century later, more and more people are moving towards electric cars with the same objective as they did in the times of yore – less pollution. In fact China’s government has announced hefty subsidies of owners of these vehicles.

Coming back to Vaahak, what exactly gives it an advantage? A technical person would delve deeper into the mechanics of these batteries, but for a layman, let’s just say that these bottom anchored batteries come with a 6 month warranty and coming with more power, they are designed to withstand more load.
As a trend seen in bustling metro cities, throbbing small towns and quiet hamlets, e-rickshaws are the in thing in the three wheeler market. They make maintaining a commercial three wheeler an easy and best of all, a profitable deal as well as create income opportunities for over 1 lakh people.

Auto rickshaws queuing outside petrol pumps for refueling will soon be passé.  Just 8 hours of charging at night will do. For more details visit - http://www.sfsonicpower.com
