“I walked over to my friend, still sweating, feeling calm despite the pain in my chest. I looked at her and quietly said, ‘I want you to listen to me very carefully: I am very sick... I can’t die, who will take care of my kids? ” After experiencing a blackout, Naesha Parks was admitted to a local hospital where a severe blood clot was found. The doctors soon discovered that she was also experiencing a rare and deadly spontaneous coronary artery dissection, where two arteries within her heart had completely split. While on the operating table, Naesha died. Doctors worked hard to revive her but were unfortunately not optimistic about her outcome. After being in a medically induced coma with her chest open for nine days, she slowly started to improve. Through Naesha Parks’ own account and through the many contributions of family, friends, doctors, and surgeons, The Heart Feels First: A Story of Revival and Recovery is a unique and unprecedented look at what it means to survive, witness a miracle, and how life finds a way to transition back to normal.
