MOTERWRITER.COM reviews the latest hit novel – That Truthful Place

Author Patty Lesser’s paranormal novel is about young teenagers with telepathic and telekinetic powers

KOCHI, India - Dec. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Patty Lesser’s new novel ‘That Truthful Place’ delves into the supernatural arena once again, investigating the phenomenon of telepathy and telekinetic powers among a bunch of young teenagers. After Alex Mitchell falls into a mysterious coma on the night of his 13th birthday, nobody seems to know what caused it. Even his physician Dr. John Matthews is befuddled by it. And on the third day when he wakes up from his deep stupor, Alex realizes that he has been blessed with a special gift, of being able to hear other people’s thoughts. It turns out this is not an isolated case and a whole bunch of kids across North America have developed this gift after waking up from a 3 day coma. Honing their skills, these kids are soon able to communicate with each other and form a secret little society with their unique background and specialized skills. And while Doctor Matthews wants to find out the group’s secrets, the children want to find out who or what gave them this power and what it intends to do with them.

When you look at them, they might seem like your regular thirteen year olds but they are not your average teens, not even close. They all get good grades at school, they have a unique and special skill set that’s useful in a modern society and more importantly they can all communicate with each other telepathically. Tackling important issues like social prejudices and racism, Patty effortlessly weaves a fictional novel involving young teens who all have at one point or the other been ostracised for being different or odd. But instead of taking a clichéd route where abused and humiliated kids who come into superpowers go after the people who have hurt them, the author very intelligently makes her characters behave with such grace and maturity that you feel that whoever it was who gave them these gifts couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate group to handle the power and the responsibility that comes with it.

“I hope readers are able to connect with my young protagonists because there’s more to follow about them and their special abilities.” Patty told us when we interviewed her in connection with the book’s promotion. The few readers who had already gotten their hand on the advance copy of the book said that they were able to identify with each of the character in the book and a large number voted for Kat as their favourite character amongst the lot. They also said that the powers the children use has not been overdone and has been portrayed realistically. Kevin Peter who reviewed the book for Moterwriter.com said thatit’s very rare for a fictional book in this genre to get the young teen’s voice right, “Most of the time even when they are described as 13 and 14 year olds, when they start talking they sound like an adult but here in this novel, you finally get to hear what normal thirteen year olds sound like, albeit they being young teenagers with supernatural powers”. He added that he was looking forward to the sequel to see how the story progresses from here on out.
