Devoted to Children Announces New After-School Program in Haiti

CAYES JACMEL, Haiti - Dec. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Devoted to Children (D2C), the Haitian-based nonprofit, has announced its first new program since its inception in 2012. The new addition is an after-school tutoring program called D2C After School. For over three years the organization has provided a home for abandoned children in Haiti, but has made this expansion in an effort to create sustainable change in the community and impact more in the community. D2C After School will serve children in primary school through offering small group tutoring services as well as social activity.

The program was conceived due to high demand in the community as well as the overall education crisis in Haiti. Currently less than 30% of all students in Haiti make it past the 6th grade. In the first year of the program, D2C hopes to improve the academic readiness and well-being of approximately 60 to 100 children in the Cayes Jacmel community. Students in the program will be tutored twice a week by a local Haitian tutor and will also engage in mindfulness and yoga exercises.

As a fuel to launch the campaign, Devoted to Children kicked off a fundraising campaign to cover costs of the local staff as well as tutoring supplies.
