Integrated Maritime Early Detection System (MEDS™) launches at Intl Workboat Show, New Orleans

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Dec. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Radio Zeeland DMP, a global market leader in the field of navigation and automation equipment for the commercial marine industry, is pleased to announce the launch of MEDS™, an advanced monitoring system that provides next generation technology to support a multitude of applications for the commercial workboat environment.  The system is designed to alert a ship’s crew or port authority to take appropriate action based on the alert notification.

The system integrates onboard equipment together with a perimeter sensor network and infrared tracking with day and night vision cameras.  Within the monitoring field, as soon as   ‘out-of-the-zone’ action occurs, an alert is communicated via a cellular or satellite network, whether you are on or off the vessel.  Communication can be programmed remotely either at a central location or company headquarters.

MEDS™ can save lives and increases efficiency to enable the crew to take necessary action, prior to boarding, or allow a port to take necessary steps prior to the vessel coming into port.  MEDS™ can be fitted to any ship either as a new-build or as part of a refit.  One of Radio Zeeland’s many unique solutions is their expert ability to manufacture and test the entire system in-house before deployment onto any vessel.  This avoids downtime while in service.

MEDS™ has the ability to monitor many conditions on a vessel, including , personnel movement on deck, watertight doors opening/closing, hatches opening/closing,  and any other activities that require tracking movement on board whether on deck or internal. Using the laser and camera sensor, events such as a barge or tow line breakaway can also be monitored.

MEDS™ also detects unauthorized boarding at sea and at the dockside.  Although piracy is on the increase, a vessel also requires protection from unauthorized boarding at the gangway.  To protect crew, camera and laser sensors monitor the decks, 24 hours a day.  There is even a built-in ‘man over board’ feature should a staff member fall off the boat.  The same system can be deployed for monitoring the bridge when no-one is around.
