Follow on Google News | Local Union Carpenters donate to Hoosier Veterans Assistance FoundationBy: IKORCC HVAF is a nonprofit organization that helps homeless veterans return to self-sufficiency and engages at-risk veterans to prevent them from becoming homeless. The organization provides an outreach program every Tuesday and Thursday where veterans can receive canned food and bread bags, along with hygiene kits and clothing. In addition, HVAF offers a rehabilitation program for addiction where veterans reside in the building, attend classes and have follow-up support in achieving goals and being self-sufficient. The veterans are then eligible to reside in one of 13 transitional houses for up to two years. IKORCC Local 301 member Greg Lincoln was the first to introduce his Local to HVAF. Because of his work with the American Legion, he was very familiar with the organization and knew that it would be a great fit for an IKORCC charitable outreach. In addition to a $500 monetary donation, Local 301 also encouraged its members to donate clothing, hygiene products and canned foods to HVAF. “I’m extremely proud of the Local 301 members for their contributions to HVAF. We have a lot of vets in the IKORCC, and I know this hits close to home for many of them,” said Greg Lincoln, IKORCC member. “When Greg came to our meeting with his request to donate to HVAF, we immediately wanted to do whatever we could to support HVAF and the vets it serves,” saidSteve Hoyt, Local 301 President. “Everyone really stepped up and gave what they could to this great organization. It really is the least we can do to express our gratitude to the men and women who served our country.” "I cannot express how much this donation will make a difference in the lives of our veterans," said longtime HVAF volunteer Becky O'Connor. "Thanks to Local 301, our vets will have new socks, underwear and long johns. I have volunteered at HVAF for over 4 years and have seen firsthand the turn around in their confidence, and they know that someone cares about them and will always be there for support and guidance."
