Genomics – The key to transform diagnostics

 
Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- The Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Informa have brought together researchers and practitioners within genomics to explore the current policy, economic, legal and social issues and to forecast the potential for this discipline, at the inaugural Genomics in Healthcare Symposium.  The one-day event will take place on the 13th November at Swissotel in Sydney.

Up and coming in the healthcare industry, genomics has the potential to transform diagnostics. With the Garvan Institute paving the way for genomics translation from research to healthcare, this inaugural event will bring to the fore the leading speakers on genomics.

The Honourable Jillian Skinner MP, Minister for Health, NSW Government will outline their commitment to medical research in the opening ministerial address.

Executive Director, Professor John Mattick AO FAA from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research will give a keynote address on the advances in genomics and potential real world applications.

The potential social impacts of genomics will be discussed by Deborah Schofield, Professor and Chair of Health Economics, NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre and School of Public Health, Sydney Medical School, The University of Sydney.

Other speaking organisations include Victorian Clinical Genetics Services, The Centre for International Economics, St. John of God Subiaco Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital, McKinsey and Co. and more.
