InsideScientific to Host Upcoming Webinar on Measuring Force in Isolated Cardiomyocytes

On September 24, 2014, InsideScientific will host an informative scientific webinar entitled ‘Measuring Force in Single Heart Cells’ on behalf of sponsor IonOptix

LONDON, Ontario - Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- InsideScientific.com, an online educational environment for Life Science Researchers, looks forward to hosting their next successful webinar sponsored by IonOptix of Milton, MA.  The event entitled ‘Measuring Force in Single Heart Cells’ will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM EST featuring Dr. Benjamin Prosser, Associate Professor of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and Dr. Michiel Helmes, Scientific Investigator at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands and Scientific Director of IonOptix LLC as panelists.  Organizers expect between 150-200 registrants for the session.

Traditional shortening experiments utilizing isolated cardiomyocytes have provided scientists with an extremely valuable functional assay.  These studies, however, have been limited to techniques that could not replicate the mechanical environment of the heart.  Recent advancements in technology provides researchers the opportunity to reliably attach cardiac cells, mechanically stretch them, make direct force measurements from them and control cell length intelligently.  During the webinar session, Dr. Prosser, and Dr. Helmes will provide an overview of their research, an in depth explanation of the how to measure force in isolated single cardiac myocytes and how new technology developed by IonOptix has expanded the scope of their research.

Key topics to be covered during the event include why it is important to mechanically load single cardiomyocytes and how to master the technique, the value of measuring force in single cell applications of cardiac function research, why it is important to control cardiomyocyte length and the value of combining force measurements with other indices of contraction and cellular function.

Registration remains open until the time of the event at: http://www.insidescientific.com/webinars/upcoming-webinars

About IonOptix:

IonOptix produces a range of systems for fluorescent ion quantitation and cell dimension measurements.  Our customers are life scientists working with isolated cells or blood vessels.  We are particularly well known for our Calcium and Contractility System which allows researchers to simultaneously measure myocyte contraction and calcium transients and our C-Pace EP, a system which helps prevent de-differentiation in isolated cell cultures through electrical conditioning.  Visit http://www.ionoptix.com for more information.
