Hughes, having witnessed first hand the advantages of league membership, notes, “I cannot overstate the benefits that the girls derive via league participation during their formative years of five to sixteen. Yes, the girls learn to play softball, but they also learn sportsmanship and how to function as a supportive member of a team . . . that the team is truly ‘greater than the sum of its parts.’ They also develop friendships that will last a lifetime.” Hughes points to PYLGSA alum Stephanie Baldwin, who was crowned Miss California in 2001. “The Miss California title is not only awarded for beauty and talent, but the pageant judges also look for poise and fellowship,” About the Placentia Yorba Linda Girls Softball Association Established in 1970, the PYLGSA got its start as Bob Etts Softball. The PYLGSA has since earned a reputation as one of Southern California’s most respected leagues, winning a State championship in 2008, as well as many district championships throughout the years. For girls aged 5 years to 16 years, the PYLGSA is governed by the by the Southern California ASA and adheres to the rules and guidelines set forth by ASA/USA Softball.
