CAMARILLO, Calif. - Sept. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. of Camarillo received unanimous approval by the Ventura County Transportation Commission to continue operating its VISTA bus system under a nine-year contract. The Commission’s Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority (VISTA) connects cities in Ventura County and neighboring Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties. The proposed contract was approved by VCTC for up to $66. 8 million. Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. was awarded the contract at the VCTC meeting July 25, 2014.

“For the past 23 years, we’ve worked hard and focused on giving Ventura County the best in safety and customer service, starting with airport shuttle services,” said Charles Sandlin, general manager of Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. “As we’ve expanded into public transit over the years, we have stayed true to our values, so it’s especially gratifying to win a bid while staying true to our principles.”

Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. outbid three competitor vendors for the contract, all of whom provided sealed bids to the Commission in response to a Request for Proposals released in May 2014. A six-member evaluation panel recommended VCTC initiate contract negotiations with Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. based on the proposals submitted, interviews and deliberations.

Roadrunner Management Services, Inc. was the incumbent operator of VISTA. The Camarillo-based company had stepped in to run the service in July 2012 when Dallas-based Coach America quit its contract with VCTC on short notice after filing for bankruptcy. VISTA served 825,000 riders during the fiscal year ending June 2014.

“When Coach America announced it would stop providing service, we felt a duty to step in and keep VISTA running so people wouldn’t get stranded with no way to get to work or school,” Sandlin said. “It was more of a heartfelt decision than a business one since there was no long-term contract involved. Now, we’re delighted to be in a long-term relationship with the VCTC. While it’s definitely a great business opportunity, we are proud that we get to continue serving the community we call home and care deeply about.”

The Commission oversees the VISTA bus system, which has been operating for 20 years.
