Limerick Going for Gold judges choose two Wildcard Finalists

Limerick Going For Gold Judges' have named Meadowbrook in Corbally and Annacotty as their two wildcard finalists in the Tidy Towns Category of the competition.

CONNOLLY, Ireland - Aug. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Limerick Going For Gold Judges' have named Meadowbrook in Corbally and Annacotty as their two wildcard finalists in the Tidy Towns Category of the competition.

The communities join Spring Grove, Caherdavin, Delmege Park, Carew Kincora and O'Malley Keyes who progressed to the final following a public voting process.

All 16 groups participating in the category, which is for groups participating in the national Tidy Towns competition, were interviewed Live 95FM's Limerick Today show over a 5-week period. Listeners to the programme voted for one finalist each week.  The finalists chosen by public vote in order of weeks were Spring Grove, Caherdavin, Delmege Park, Carew Kincora and O Malley Keyes.

Limerick Going For Gold has also announced 19 communities from throughout Limerick City and its environs that have been shortlisted for the Community Challenge Category, one of four categories in the competition.

The communities include Ashfort RA, Castletroyview, College Gate, Drominbeg, Glencairn, Glenbrook/Glendale/Glenbrook Lawn, Gouldavoher, Knockhill Estate, Kilteragh, Limerick Youth Services, Lynwood Park RA, South Limerick City Res Assocation, Monaleen Heights, Monaleen Park, Mount Gerard Court, St Patricks Hurling, Southville Gurteen, Summerville Rovers and Thomond Court.

Limerick Going for Gold is an annual campaign, which aims to make Limerick a cleaner brighter place to work live and visit.  This year it features a prize fund of over €50,000.

According to Kieran Lehane, Director of Services, Environment, Limerick City and County Council: "I would like to acknowledge and thank the volunteers driving the Going for Gold efforts in communities across the city.  Your efforts demonstrate a commitment to your area local area and help make Limerick a cleaner, brighter place to work, live and visit.  I also want to acknowledge the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, as well as the local media for their ongoing support."

Limerick Going for Gold category information:
•    Tidy Towns Category – groups participating in the national Tidy Towns competition.
•    Community Challenge (groups not participating in the TidyTowns Competition) - This category was open to all community groups and resident associations from Limerick City and environs.
•    Individual Merit Award - acknowledges someone’s (adult or child) individual commitment to making their community a cleaner and brighter place to live, Going for Gold want to hear about it.
•    Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition (garden must be visible from the public road) - sponsored by the Parkway Shopping Centre
