With every  drowning heart  ,with  every falling  hope  and with   every  end  came up a hand to help ,to pick you back up and give a new start. Teachers  have been  contributing  to  the community   since  an  era  we  can't  recall .But,the trend of  celebrating the immense pleasure of having such role models  did not remain throughout history. It  was   only when  Dr . Sarvepalli   Radhakrishnan  on his birthday on  5th september  in  his speech mentioned to observe his birthday   appreciating  the  contributions  of  teachers all over the nation  towards the community.

A good teacher is like a candle

it consumes itself to light the way for others. http://www.teacherdayquotes.com/topics/quotes/

Dr. Radhakrishnan  was  the   first vice President of India   and the second  President   of India. He was India's best and most influential scholars in the field of   religion and philosophy. He was awarded various awards during his lifetime, including  the BHARAT  RATNA in 1954. In his lifetime,  he represented India at UNESCO and was even an ambassador of India to the Soviet Union.

But before all that, Dr. Radhakrishnan’s life is a study of idealism and devotion to one’s philosophy and beliefs. He was a scholar of such brilliance that he won the appreciation and respect of scholars the world over, even when he was criticising the western culture for undermining the confidence of Indian traditions. He taught in universities all around the world and intellectual minds invited him with open arms to share his plethora of knowledge and unique philosophy which was crucial in shaping the contemporary Hindu psyche.

Deeply affected by the philosophy of his own spiritual teacher Swami Vivekanand, he went on to teach the world and India the real meaning and ethics of eastern religious traditions. His tenure of teaching in Oxford University was so impressive that he was knighted in 1932, but he gave the title away after India got its independence.

Even though he later came to prominent offices in Indian government and United Nations, he is still remembered as the teacher who taught the philosophy of Indian culture to the west as well as India. He was the original teacher who was considered the authority when it came to understand the role of religion in contemporary world.

The trend of praising teachers has continued from time immemorial and the ways have enhanced and changed dynamically. From touching the feet of the teachers and greeting them the day  to arranging performances,  dances,  skitz,  contests  and gifting them all sorts of flowers, cards  and presents.
