MINNEAPOLIS - Aug. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- John Woods is the owner of New Perspectives Behavioral Health Systems, a chemical dependency treatment program in the middle of the suburban heroin overdose deaths in Richfield, Minn. He (Woods) is also the founder and board chair of New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance. New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance seeks to raise $10,000.00 by October 1, 2014 to put down payments on local property for our program participants.

New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance is established as a housing agent for the homeless, which include people with mental illnesses, veterans and those who go through chemical dependency treatment for alcoholism or drug abuse. Woods says, “This has been a life-long goal. I think we need to focus on ending homelessness in Minnesota. It’s too cold to be without shelter during a Minnesota winter.”  Minnesota's homeless population has increased and most treatment programs have extreme waiting lists. In Minnesota with winter fast approaching, New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance needs to establish housing within the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs to make sure all program participants have housing. New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance will be open to anyone who does not have housing in Minnesota.

Mr. Woods wants to partner with local organizations interested in putting an end to homelessness. “We talk about it; the mayor’s of Minneapolis and St. Paul said they were committed to it. I will certainly test their commitment very shortly,” said Woods.

The Wilder Foundation has defined the construct of a homeless person: A homeless person is anyone who (1) lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and (2) has a primary nighttime residence that is a supervised, publicly- or privately-operated temporary living accommodation, including emergency shelters, transitional housing, and battered women’s shelters; or 3) has a nighttime residence in any place not meant for human habitation, such as under bridges or in cars. This is based on the definition established by the U.S. Congress. A parent not meeting any of these criteria may be included if they have a child with them, and have a significant history of residential instability, and have a barrier (or have a child with a barrier) that interferes with housing or employment.

In July 2014, New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance filed to be recognized as a nonprofit housing program in the State of Minnesota. On August 16, New Perspectives Supportive Housing Alliance sent via certified mail their application to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) with Internal Revenue Service (Pending). All files are available for public review by appointment only at 6425 Penn Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55423 - phone:(612) 465-8110.
