THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Aug. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- The Conejo Valley YMCAs' Adventure Guides is now taking sign-ups for kids in in kindergarten through third grade and their parents. To kick off the program, the Y is hosting a “Buddy Day” on Sunday, September 7 with a program orientation and an annual Raingutter Regatta. Buddy Day will be held at the Conejo Y (4031 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Adventures Guides helps parents and children develop healthy relationships, gain a sense of belonging, learn positive values and the importance of giving back to the community,” says Haley Swenson, the Y’s program director.

Small groups of parents and their sons or daughters meet once a month from September through June at member homes or other locations. The YMCA matches families based on schools and where they live. This allows children to meet some of their schoolmates in a different environment. "Adventure Guides gives parents more time to spend with their kids,” says Swenson. "Parents also get a chance to socialize with other parents. It's a great way to get to know parents with kids the same age as yours."
