Follow on Google News | Michael Hageloh: New iPhone Needs to Feel Good in the HandsApple sales veteran michael hageloh shares his thoughts on what Apple needs to accomplish with the iPhone 6.
By: Michael Hageloh “What will constitute a success for Apple? There are actually a couple of answers to that question, and the first and simplest is that the iPhone 6 just needs to sell,” comments hageloh, in his press statement. “It needs to sell very well. Only time will tell, but early numbers suggest that it will.” Beyond that, hageloh suggests, a win for Apple has more to do with feel than it does any major technological breakthrough. “Apple had a major breakthrough with the original iPhone, which is the most disruptive and significant device of the last 200 years,” hageloh says. “Frankly, I don’t think Apple or any other company is going to have another breakthrough of that magnitude any time soon. Disruption of that caliber is not the standard here.” The standard, hageloh says, is the way the phone feels in the user’s hands. “We are living in a mobile world, and given how much people rely on their devices, it is imperative that they feel good and natural,” he says. “Apple’s success at this point depends on delivering a device that’s better and faster than the last one, yes, but also one that feels just as good or better in the hands.” According to hageloh, his favorite iPhone—purely in terms of feel—remains the 4. “Subsequent phones have been superior on many levels, but to me they just feel slightly too large,” he comments. “Whether the iPhone 6 feels any better, that will be the big question.” While the new device may well be bigger than current models, hageloh is confident that Apple will deliver a product that people like. “Apple has seldom made a misstep in this regard,” he comments. “Apple products nearly always feel right—and I’m sure this one will, too.” More information about michael hageloh is available at his personal website, www.hageloh.com.
