Embracing new geological practices and the right data crucial to maintaining global mining success

LONDON - Aug. 5, 2014 - PRLog -- Never have the rewards been bigger in mining exploration with the opportunity to trigger economic growth, social prosperity and commercial gain. However never have the risks been so high, relying on traditional methods and practices that now force mining organisations and their geological partners to embrace new technology and approaches from other sectors.

Ruth Gonzaga, founder of Gonzaga Geology has announced to Mining Magazine this month that the way we interpret data and harmonise existing practices with upcoming technology and it’s sophistication is crucial if organisations are to realise the potential of exploration projects.

“We’ve relied in the past in doing things for many years in a certain way and it’s enabled energy and oil firms to be in the often healthy positions they are in now. But going forward geologists in particular are demanding new ways to carry out their research and help reform a discipline that is ripe for change. We need to be far more measured when analysing the scope and benefits of what new exploration can bring. The investment in money and resource can now be exorbitant and instability in many of the globes regions have further exacerbated the need for calculated feasibility on projects.

Future success could be far more rewarding if geologists interpreted new ways of doing things correctly and whether these continue to be correctly linked with the data teams are being given to go out and do their jobs with” she continued.

Ruth Gonzaga talks about kriging and how teams need to be better at using modern algorithms in the article available in the July/August release of Mining Magazine’s digital edition. To view the article visit https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mining-magazine-2013/id648945985?mt=8
