GERMANTOWN, Md. - June 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Alan Block, DPM, MS, will represent the My Leg My Choice Foundation at a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Hearing on Thursday, June 12, 2014. The Circulatory System Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee’s day-long hearing will include an open public forum, 1 – 2 p.m., during which Dr. Block will address why we must look beyond amputation as a treatment option for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD), as well as the unmet needs of the PAD patient community. The hearing will be held at the Holiday Inn Express/Highlands Conference Center, Germantown, Md.

As one of the foundation’s key physician leaders, Dr. Block will identify challenges faced by PAD patients and explain why alternatives to amputation are needed. Dr. Block has spoken at numerous medical conferences on the drawbacks of amputation and how new treatment protocols can save limbs, and ultimately, a patient’s life.

The foundation’s objectives include raising awareness about PAD screenings, symptoms and treatment approaches. It has identified a need to educate patients and their families, as well as the healthcare community, about alternatives to lower-extremity amputation.
