RALEIGH, N.C. - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C., June 9, 2014— Over 580,000 Americans die of cancer each year, leaving families to grieve and regroup, each in their own way.  In  Daddy, Can You Make Me Pancakes?, Kevin B. McAteer and Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas share the true story of Kevin and Pamela McAteer and her heartbreaking battle with leukemia which left husband  Kevin and their three young children to cope without mommy.  Mr. McAteer displays humor, grace and sincerity as he leads readers through the pain of his wife’s diagnosis, her unexpected death, and his journey as he was thrust into the role of a single parent, raising three children under age 6, while grieving the loss of his wife.

"Being a dad was never a job until February 18, 2007, when I was hired with no interview, no offer letter, no compensation discussion, just forced to accept the position of single parent," McAteer writes.  "I miss with such fervor, the young man who used to come jetting out of his car in the driveway.  Pamela, the mother of my children is not coming back.  I know he's not coming back either."

“This is a story that is witness to how the rawness of intense grief can be transformed into a powerful healing of the soul,” said Terri Kuczynski, Patient Family Counselor at Rex Healthcare. “Daddy, Can You Make Me Pancakes? gives a voice to men and fathers who have experienced a similar loss when previously so little has been written from this perspective.”

In December of 2005, the McAteers, along with their three children, packed up for a new adventure in Raleigh, N.C. where Kevin was starting a new job as vice president of sales and marketing for Concord Hospitality.  Five months later, with their support system back home in New Jersey, their lives were changed forever when Pamela was diagnosed with cancer. Urged on by the friends, family and professionals who supported them through the journey to restore hope and happiness, McAteer tells his tale with unflinching honesty, warmth and humor in hopes that others facing similar heartbreak will take comfort and find hope in their experience.

Daddy, Can You Make Me Pancakes? details the experiences, lessons, and advice offered to the McAteer family through their adversity and healing.

On Christmas Eve 2012, in a triumph of faith and resilience, McAteer again committed to a lifetime of love when he married Shayna, blending a beautiful family of six kids- Mason, Christopher, Mia, Amanda, Madison, and Kevin Patrick. Today, McAteer continues to lead Concord Hospitality’s sales and marketing efforts, and enjoys raising his family in Raleigh, N.C.

Daddy, Can You Make Me Pancakes? is available in bookstores and on Amazon at in both print and Kindle versions.
