Follow on Google News | Local Union Carpenters Donate to Joe Betustak Jr. Memorial FoundationBy: Group 7even The foundation, which raises money to help local children with cancer, was created in honor of Hammond Police Sgt. Joe Betustak Jr., who passed away from bone cancer in 2006. Local 599 became involved with the foundation after union member Jim Golub’s family received assistance when his son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2006. “Contributing to such a wonderful foundation is an honor,” said Tom Dorsey, IKORCC Senior Supervisor. “To have such a tragic event be lifted up and turned into a positive event is a tribute to everyone who has been recognized and assisted through the Joe Betustak Jr. Memorial Foundation. The foundation provided so much support for the Golubs, and we feel that it’s our duty to contribute to the support of other families and honor Joe by giving to the foundation.” This Saturday, the foundation is hosting its annual Motorcycle Run and Party on the Lake fundraising event at Wolf Lake Memorial Park in Hammond from 11am-7pm, with sign-ups beginning at 9am. All proceeds raised at the event will benefit local families. The event is open to the public and costs $15 for single riders and $25 for double riders. To make a donation, checks can be sent to Joe Betustak, Jr. Memorial Fund, Inc. c/o American Savings & Loan, 4521 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN 46327.
