Is it safe to wear fine jewelry to the beach?

In one word, “no.”

Precious gemstones, semi-precious gemstones, and heavy metals, while perfect for "everyday" wear, are not recommended in the sandy and salty environments of the beach and ocean. While there are exceptions, like diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and 18-karat white gold, that are scratch resistant to silica (sand), for the most part your Tanari collection is not safe at the beach. Consider accessorizing with less precious jewelry made from resin, plastic, enamel or lucite.

In addition to the damaging elements of the beach environment, the cold temperatures in the water will shrink your hands. A lot of Our Friends have lost their treasured baubles in the ocean; mostly rings. Also, sunscreen and sand are difficult to remove from your Tanari collection.

We know Tanari gemstones perform magically in the sun (especially fire opals – wow!) but we recommend leaving them at home when you’re heading to the beach. You should be present and enjoy the beauty of Our Earth without having to worry about damaging and losing your luxurious symbols of strength, wisdom, and beauty.
