The expense of heating the tank to keep the fish alive was reducing the savings being made on growing their own food. It is far better to choose the fish that are native to your area, this way they are already used to the climatic conditions. You also need to be careful about the regulations in your state. Some fish have been banned in certain states as they are considered a pest. You can be charged and fined if you have these fish in your Aquaponics system. In order to avoid that you can contact a member of the department of fish and game and find out for yourself. It could save you a lot of money, in both loss of fish and the fine you may have to pay.
