Follow on Google News | Phoenix Panhellenic Association Fosters Charitable Partnership at Waste Management Phoenix OpenOver $675,000 awarded for scholarships and tuition assistance programs through Thunderbird Charities
By: Phoenix Panhellenic Association Since 1975, roughly 25,000 volunteers have participated in the philanthropic endeavor and accumulated well over 250,000+ volunteer hours at areas such as WMPO registration and concession tents throughout the week-long event and tournament. This year 700 volunteers will supply 7,000+ hours to meet the needs of the WMPO and the hundreds of thousands of spectators. This year also saw the addition of ASU Fraternity and Sorority Life staff, and Student Engagement staff to round out the volunteer base. "The incredible volunteer support we receive enables our scholarship and tuition assistance program to serve those in need," said Susan Norman, president Phoenix Panhellenic Association and alumnae of Delta Zeta sorority. "We are deeply grateful to the Thunderbirds for their continued support through their charitable funding.” Phoenix Panhellenic Association is comprised of alumnae women from all 26 National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities who strive to support the values of collaboration with members, campuses and communities. NPC holds individual members and chapters to high standards of academic excellence, cooperation with universities, personal integrity, health and safety of members, leadership development and community service. “This panhellenic philanthropy provides a valuable venue for sorority camaraderie and supporting the mission and future of Greek sisterhood,” The 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open, known as “The Greatest and Greenest Show on Grass,” is held at the TPC Scottsdale, and is widely regarded as the best-attended golf tournament in the world and home to the legendary 16th hole, which in known for being the one of the most unique holes on the PGA Tour. “I look forward to volunteering every year at the Phoenix Open. It's the perfect way to have fun with my sorority sisters, meet new people, watch golf (which I love), be in a great atmosphere, and raise money for panhellenic scholarships,” NPC, one of the largest organizations advocating for women, is the umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities. NPC sororities are located at 666 campuses with 325,772 undergraduate members in 3,217 chapters. Alumnae are represented in 3,883 associations throughout the world.
