What Is A Hearing Loop And How Does It Work? A hearing loop, also known as an Induction or Audio Loop, provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting. The loop system consists of a microphone to pick up the spoken word; an amplifier which processes the signal which is then sent through the final piece; the induction loop, a wire placed around the perimeter of a room or sanctuary to act as an antenna that radiates the magnetic signal to the hearing aid. When a hearing aid user selects the ‘T’ setting; he or she can pick up the sounds spoken into the PA system’s microphone instead of the hearing aid’s internal microphone. This results in improved speech understanding because the listener receives a clear signal without any background noise. "People with hearing loss get really excited about hearing loops; many even cry with relief because the improvement in sound quality is so dramatic," says Frank Lin, M.D., Ph.D., Johns Hopkins otologist and epidemiologist . Hearing Technologies, LLC installed the Hearing Loops in the Chapel, Rotunda and Blue Ridge Meeting Rooms , 3 Solariums and a Great Room where residents meet for meetings or social events. If recent comments on the LeadingAge CCRC list serv are any indication, Hearing Loops could one day become a standard feature . " Good Success. Most respondents reported having good success with their hearing loops. "has been wonderful for those who have the capabilities to use it with their hearing aids" "People who would have a hard time in activities like Bingo now hear exactly what is said and their whole demeanor has brightened" Where Else can Hearing Loops be Used? -Churches -Auditoriums -Banks -Pharmacies -Libraries -Reception Counters ..almost anywhere where people need to be heard!
