Jan. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- There has been much rife of speculation and misinformation in recent years about whether social signals from Facebook and Twitter affect Google search algorithm or not, and if so, how much. While some SEO service providers pave focus on social media for getting potential rankings, while others strictly inclined towards social for getting traffic, awareness, and other indirect benefits. Matt Cutts, the head of Google's web spam team, combat the subject in his latest released webmaster help video, which explains the idea of whether Facebook and Twitter signals constituent the part of the ranking algorithm or not and how much relevant they are. Here's what Matt Cutts had to say “Facebook and Twitter pages are treated like any other pages in our web index so if something occurs on Twitter or occurs on Facebook and we're able to crawl it, then we can return that in our search results. But as far as doing special specific work to sort of say “you have this many followers on Twitter or this many likes on Facebook”, to the best of my knowledge we don't currently have any signals like that in our web search ranking algorithms”.

Matt Cutts statement may looks quite definitive that those signals aren't taken into account. Taking a dig into the interesting update from Google end, Simpliti, India's leading SEO company, asserted that it is indeed a change from what Cutts said 3 years back when it was confirmed that Google was using social signals. Mr. Foyzul Alom Choudhury, Manager, Simpliti, said that social profiles keep changing on a frequent basis as Google only samples the web at a particular points in time. Matt Cutts asserts, unless, Google finds a concrete way to solve that impasse, the problem will always remain in crawling of social profiles, especially if any of the linked account is blocked or the post has been removed from the account.

However, it does not mean that you should stop using Facebook or twitter. Cutts pointed out that there is a lot of value attached to social networks. Both social profiles represent a fabulous avenue and prove to be a great way to drive visitors and traffic to your website. Mr. Foyzul Alom Choudhury also warned people from reaching to conclusions that high number of Facebook likes push the website ranking on search engine. Though, Google doesn't seem to be using Facebook and twitter social signals when it comes to ranking but there are plenty of benefits associated with these accounts and it is inevitable for marketers not to cease those benefits simply because there is no direct relation between Google ranking and social media platforms.
