In order to get inexpensive class rings you will have to choose your ring metals and decorations carefully. This does not mean that inexpensive class rings have to look like pieces of junk, it simply means that you have to know about the metals these items are made from and choose the least expensive option that will still provide you with the look you want. When you want to buy inexpensive class rings that are gold you simply need to know how your gold is rated and what makes it more valuable. Inexpensive class rings that are yellow gold can be purchased by lowering the karats of the gold in the ring.

Gold is measured in karats. The karat tells you how much pure gold is in the piece of jewelry and how much of it is actually less expensive metals that are worked into the gold to make a composite metal. Inexpensive class rings can be found in 10 karat gold, which means the ring only has about 41% pure gold in it, or in 12 karat gold that is half pure gold and the other half is made up of composite metals. The higher the karats go the more pure gold that is in the ring. 24 karat is the top of the line, meaning the ring would have 99.9% pure gold in it.

To get inexpensive rings that are gold simply buy the 12 karat or less version of the rings. You can also buy gold filled, or gold plated rings when you are looking for inexpensive class rings. The gold filled will have a good deal more pure gold in it than the gold plated rings do so gold filled versions will be more expensive than gold plated versions of the same ring. Gold plating is basically a thin layer of gold that is adhered to a ring made of another metal.

Inexpensive class rings can be made of stainless steel instead of the more expensive platinum or silver. The coloration of the stainless steel inexpensive class rings is approximately the same as the platinum versions or the silver versions.

Silver is more affordable than gold is, and for class rings you can even buy silver plated items. Like the gold plated, the silver plated class rings will be made of cheaper metals and then they will be coated with the silver coating. The coating will be thin and will not be long lasting, per say, but it will be attractive.

Nickel silver is a cheaper alternative than pure silver items are, but nickel silver is deceptive, because it contains nickel, copper, and zinc, and there is no silver content at all.

Platinum is a very rare metal so it is one of the most expensive choices you can make when selecting the components for your ring. Remember that the stone you place in the center of the ring will also change the price. There are simulated stones and then there are semi-precious, and even precious stones that can be used in the settings of these rings.
