Bora Health launches; a community interest company committed to making independent living affordable

SYDNEY - Dec. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- AUSTRALIA — March 31, 2012 — Community interest company, Bora Health Pty Ltd, today announced the launch of a website to raise awareness of the increasing challenge facing an ageing population of maintaining affordable, independent living by sharing information and solutions for people of all financial means. Through building effective partnerships across the industry, both commercial and non-financial, Bora Health is the primary network for seniors, and representing organizations, to discover more about independent living.

“And it is an increasing problem.” said Bora Health Founder Joel Groth “considering the Australian Bureau of Statistics predicts that by 2041 one in five people will be over 65 and 7% of the population will be aged over 80it is clear to see that we need to address this, and we need to address it now.”

Bora Health aims to promote inexpensive and easy-to-use products and services to a problem that more and more Australian families – including Joel’s – are experiencing: striking the right balance between helping elderly relatives and friends maintain freedom and independence, while making sure these solutions are available for all, not just those that can afford it.

Bora Health came into existence following the difficulties Groth faced when caring for his grandmother after the passing of his grandfather. “There was very little information out there, and it was very difficult to know where to turn” Groth said. “Also, grandma did not have much money so we found most of the products and services advertised were way out of budget. I thought this was a really unfair way to be treating our parents and grandparents, and something needed to be done”.

Factors such as the highly publicized end to the mining boom and the budget deficit have meant that every Australian has had to question how far the Government will be able to look after family or loved ones in the future.

“We used to be able to rely on the Government to look after us in our old age” said Bora Health co-Founder Daniel Westhead “But as we’ve seen happen in the US and UK, as a greater proportion of the community reaches retirement, the increasing budget strain on the public sector purse means that the responsibility falls back on the individual and their family. The question is can everyone afford it?”
