Aluminum forging is similar to steel forging in many ways, but also has a few differences. During aluminum cold forging, the aluminum bars are sawed, formed and finished in a similar fashion as to steel forging.

However, the flash design for aluminum is usually thinner than steel. In addition, due to the more malleable and ductile properties of aluminum, it is most ideal to do aluminum forging using aluminum cold forging method. Steel is less malleable and therefore will be best when hot forging steel in used. In other words, steel is heat treated first in order for the material to be more easily altered by the process of hot forging.
