TED was founded in 1984; the acronym stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. The annual TED conference brings together some of the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created a program called TEDx where x=independently organized. As part of the TEDWomen conference, local TEDx events around the world will be bringing innovative people in their own communities to the stage. For the first time since its inception, TEDxDelrayBeach is working in conjunction with TEDWomen and the other TEDx events around the globe to present TEDxDelrayBeachWomen to our community. Channeling the bootstrap spirit of Silicon Valley to celebrate invention in all its forms, our December 6 global event shares the same theme: Invented Here. More than 150 TEDx events will take part, livestreaming and presenting. The Invented Here theme lends itself to creating a truly global conversation — from San Francisco to São Paulo to Seoul — celebrating inventors and designers, thinkers and makers, local problem-solvers and global leaders. About TEDxDelrayBeach In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, the TEDx Program of local, self-organized events brings people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx where x designates independently organized TED events. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. TEDxDelrayBeach is operated under license from TED. About TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design—Three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa “and a “four day journey into the future. The diverse audience—CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists— TED was first held in Monterey, California in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TED prize.
