By: steve galiher a3 Dr. Wyatt began ministry as an evangelist in 1949 traveling the nation, preaching in tent revivals and planting local churches, he would later receive credentials and retire with the Assemblies of God in the state of Florida. He was a vibrant part of the International Network of Prison Ministries (INPM) a prison ministry that has touched the lives of tens of thousands of prisoners in Polk County Florida Jail and in prisons all over the nation. After serving as a detective with the Bartow Police Department and retiring from the Polk County Sheriffs Department, Alva went back into the 'detention system' bringing the word of God to prisoners by authoring the 'Wyatts Bible Studies' (an expository study of the New Testament) which was distributed in over 26 states and around the world. Dr. Wyatt never graduated from high school yet earned His PH.D in Philosophy of Theology at the age of 71, graduating from Columbia State University with a minor in Law & Society. Now the rest of the story...after serving in The US Army during WWII and his marriage to the 'love of his life' Ruth E.Centers in 1947, he was able to complete his GED in 1962, which began an Academic journey that few have ever experienced. His outstanding awards and accomplishments would include... ● A Bachelor's in History from Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God ● A Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Rollins College in Winter Park,FL ● A Doctorate in Theology from Columbia State University at Mettairie, LA Alva Wyatt would make good on every promise he made to himself and others concerning education, civic responsibility, ministry and marriage. He never quit in the midst of adversity, was never swayed by popular opinion, and always believed that he could learn it - know it - experience it. Dr. Wyatt's core belief was 'knowledge gained in this life would be awarded in the life to come', It was the driving force that led him to spend countless hours in personal study of science, history, philosophy and the Bible. In the 1990's Dr. Wyatt was recognized as a Poet laureate and was invited to London Engalnd to be honored for a poem he penned entitled ©'Mother Earth'. This literary offering was influenced by his deep spiritual conviction and his desire to impart understanding that 'the earth was the Lords and the fullness thereof', that humanity has a God given responsibility to care for the earth and it's inhabitants. His insight was always a 'step ahead' of his peers...In the 1990's Dr. Wyatt was recognized as a Poet laureate and was invited to London Engalnd to be honored for a poem he penned entitled ©'Mother Earth'. somehow 'Doc' Wyatt was always able to see, even in the simplicities of life what many could not see, hear what others could not hear, and go where few from 'his world' had ever gone before. One of Dr. Wyatt's last manuscripts was an Exegesis on Heaven. ©'Heaven,The Abode of God'..he asked the question "where is heaven and how do i get there". This was an extensive study about 'the after-life' and the complexities of understanding life after death. He concludes with these words.."why not join me on my journey like a pilgrim of old who was looking for that celestial city" and offers a graceful invitation..." Dr. Wyatt is still loved, missed and remembered at the one year anniversary of His passing...His Legacy will not be forgotten and his words will remain forever as a living testimony to The Greatness of God.
