Canada's Cloud Dynamics Gets Thumbs Up for Convergence

451 Research Says the Cloud Enabler's Technologies are 'Radical' & 'Far-Reaching'

TORONTO - Oct. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Toronto, Sep. 30, 2013: Canadian start-up Cloud Dynamicshas developed and offers technologies that are “radical” in nature and make the company stand out among its peers in the cloud technology world, says 451 Research, one of the world's largest analyst firms.

In a report the New York-based firm, which focuses on emergent technologies and start-ups, points out the fact that Cloud Dynamics provides next generation integration of not just hardware and software, but also of IT and power (heat extraction and cooling). "The integration of power distribution and cooling is a real differentiator, and ahead of the general curve. Many will want to take a look," the report says.

451 Research, which also owns the Uptime Institute, says further that while Cloud Dynamics has developed from scratch a “broad” technology platform -- including its patent-pending ultra-efficient green heat-exchange technology (ecoHX), the adaptive cooling system (ecoCool) and the Cloud Data Center Operating System (cDOS) – the company emphasizes on seamless integration with other key cloud technologies -- such as CloudStack and OpenStack -- that currently dominate the sector. “One aspect we do like is the combination of support for legacy apps alongside the newer apps more commonly associated with public cloud deployments,” the report says.

These integration technologies help Cloud Dynamics to offer its partners turnkey or customized solutions that cut their data center power costs by as much as 90-percent, and increase data center rack density by ten times.

Cloud Dynamics has multiple pending patents around its core technologies.

Its key technologies include:

ecoDC (Eco Data Center): The ecoDC is a disruptive innovation from Cloud Dynamics, featuring its proprietary ultra-high density heat exchanging technology (ecoHX) and adaptive ultra-efficient Cloud Data Center Cooling System (ecoCool). ecoDC’s 35kW (10 tons) per cabinet heat -extraction capacity is ten times more than that of a typical legacy data center, and its Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.1 is much lower than the industry average of around 1.9 (Uptime Institute, 2012), which converts into cost and other savings for clients by as much as fifty percent.

CRU (Cloud Resource Unit): CRU is the currency of the cloud sector, just as the watt is for the electricity sector. It is the weighted summation of all the disparate components that go into a cloud data center – network, computing, storage, power, facilities, human resources, etc. – and provides CIOs and CFOs with a standard, single, dimensionless unit to cost and budget their cloud resources.  Managers can use the same tools and techniques used in financial management for cloud resource management, control and budgeting purposes.

Cloud Dynamics was founded by three entrepreneurs:

Kumar Ratnam, P.Eng. (CEO): Ratnam is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in information technology (IT) modernization, infrastructure, data center, and technical services and support. Before starting Cloud Dynamics Inc. He founded four successful technology companies, including iVedha Inc., a systems integrator with approximately $20 million in annual revenues. Ratnam also serves as a board member of many private and publicly traded companies.

Vijai Karthigesu, MBA, P.Eng. (COO): Karthigesu has more than 15 years of experience in large IT infrastructure architecture, design and operations in the public and private sectors. He was also the founder of two successful IT firms, including SpectraVoice, a pioneer in Canadian-VOIP industry.

Dr. Mirza Kamaludeen, PhD, P.Eng. (CTO): Dr. Kamaludeen is an innovator, author and entrepreneur with more than 15 years of experience in IT and data center infrastructure design, analytics and implementation, and held senior positions in the Ontario Government. He is the architect of the ecoDC and the CRU.
