CARROLLTON, Texas - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- CARROLLTON, TX (September 12, 2013)…Operation Kindness – the oldest and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas – adopted out a record number of animals in August: 414 animals in one month.

“Being able to adopt out this many animals in one month is truly a cause for celebration,” says Sandi Laird, animal care director at Operation Kindness. “It’s exciting to see so many dogs and cats go to forever, loving homes. It also helps us continue saving lives because we’re a no-kill shelter with limited space. Every time an animal is adopted out, the shelter is able to take another one in.”

The Operation Kindness staff attributes the record-breaking numbers to a variety of factors, but in particular, the public’s growing awareness of Operation Kindness and its cause. Operation Kindness officials say this awareness was largely influenced by Adoption Days at the Galleria, a first for the no-kill shelter.

“A major contributing factor was the 17-day run at the Galleria, both in terms of the number of adoptions we did there and the fact that it increased awareness of us and foot traffic at the shelter. We are grateful for their help and for our community’s support. It has made such a difference in our mission and gets us one step closer to Operation Kindness’ vision: a world where all dogs and cats have a loving, responsible, forever home,” notes Jim Hanophy, CEO of Operation Kindness.

Adoption Days at the Galleria took place Aug. 9 through Aug. 25 at the Galleria Dallas. During the event, Galleria shoppers were given the opportunity to visit with Operation Kindness staff, interact with the animals, learn about volunteer and donation opportunities, and adopt dogs and cats. Operation Kindness and Galleria Dallas will partner together for a second adoption event Nov. 29 through Dec. 24.

Operation Kindness is the oldest and largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. Each day Operation Kindness cares for an average of 300 animals at its Carrollton, Texas, shelter with an additional 100 animals living in its foster-home network. Operation Kindness has saved more than 75,000 animals since its inception. Learn how you can adopt, donate or volunteer by visiting www.OperationKindness.org  or by calling 972-418-PAWS.
