VALPARAISO, Ind. - Sept. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Team Chevy is proud to announce that the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (http://www.teamchevyinc.com/2014-Chevrolet-Silverado) High Country has received the best possible five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is a first for a pickup since the NHTSA revised its crash test rating system in 2011. All competing trucks, including the Ford F-150, the Dodge Ram 1500, and the Toyota Tundra only received four out of five possible stars.

“GM’s latest crop of pickups are not only more fuel-efficient than the generation they are replacing, they’re now officially the safest trucks available on the road today,” said Alec Gutierrez, a senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book.

Some of the features that GM added to the Chevy Silverado to achieve this safety rating include six total airbags and a reinforced steel frame. The Silverado also has a rear backup camera for ease of reversing and parking and new lap belt pre-tensioners in the front seats. Some available features in the Silverado include a forward collision warning system, a lane departure warning system, and a safety alert seat that can help prevent collisions due to driver inattention.

The Silverado scored a perfect five-star overall score. It also received a perfect five-star rating in front and side crash tests, and a four-star rating in the rollover test. Since the revised NHTSA rating system went into effect, no trucks have received a perfect overall score, and very few trucks have received even four star ratings in individual crash tests.

While drivers of pickups have historically not made safety a priority, that is changing. General Motors and Chevrolet are leading the way in adding some of the most sophisticated available safety features to the newest Silverado.

The Silverado has yet to be tested by the IIHS, the other major crash safety rating body. Chevrolet expects similarly exceptional scores.
