Museum of the Great Wall - Simatai

The most sought out part of the Great Wall at Simatai will reopen on the 1st October 2013 after extensive renovation work which has been underway since June 17th 2010.

LONDON - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- The Simatai Great Wall of China is situated 120 km (2 hours dive) from Beijing. the earliest mentioning of this part of the Great Wall dates back to 1368, which is when some historians was the start date of building the Great Wall as we see it today. Some historian also refers to this portion of the Great Wall as the ‘Museum of the Great Wall’ due to the different styles incorporated in its structure. The most famous structures include the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and the ‘Heavenly Bridge’. The Stairway to Heaven is a single narrow staircase which is extremely difficult to climb once you reach near the top. However, once you have reached the top, you will arrive at the stunning ‘Heavenly Bridge’, which gives you incredible views of the neighbouring scenery. Furthermore, if the sky is particularly clear, you may have views that stretch all the way to the Beijing skyline.

The Simatai Great Wall is well known for its watch towers which total 35. They are supposed to be evenly spaced out every 200 metres. However, the space is so uneven that sometimes the gap is as small as 40 metre; yet other times as wide as 300m. One of the most interesting feature about the towers is that some of them have only one window, whereas others have three, four or even five.

At the end of the Simati Great Wall there is a Mandarin Duck Lake which never freezes. Half of the lake is filled with warm water, whereas the other half is filled with cold water. The Mandarin Duck Lake is an excellent location to relax after a long walk on the Great Wall.

The “new” existing Simatai Great Wall will now feature a 5* hotel and a Zhouzhuang style water village called ‘Gubeishui’. Near to the wall also, there is rumoured to be a Horse Racing Track, which will become open to the public.

China Holidays can assist tourists and hikers plan their trip to visit the Great Wall of China at Simatai as day tour from Beijing, as an shore excursion from Tianjin or as a full day trek from Jinshaling to Simatai.  Come to China this October to see the transformation of the Simatai section of the Great Wall.
