DALLAS - Aug. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- CONROE, TEXAS (Aug. 27, 2013)….According to a study published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on October 7, 2010, “One in Five Adults Has Arthritis.” Two of the primary causes of arthritis are age and previous injury to a joint or joints. Baby boomer Rick Rose is one of those “one in five,” and age and joint injury have led to painful osteoarthritis in both knees. Massages at Massage Envy Spa Teas Crossing (http://www.massageenvy.com/clinics/TX/Teas-Crossing.aspx) are on his monthly to-do list.

“My wife and I became members of Massage Envy Spa Teas Crossing eight or nine months ago right after the grand opening,” he says. “We used to get massages at a school, but that was years ago. When we saw the new Massage Envy Spa so close to us, we said ‘Hey!’”

Rick and wife Jeanie go in at least once a month. His massage therapist, Donna, attentively customizes the massage to his problem areas, which are his knees.. “For about three or four days after a massage, the pain greatly subsides. It doesn’t go away, but it’s much better,” he notes. “The rest of the time my knees are really stiff.”

A former U.S. Marine, the 68-year-old is now retired after working 30 years as a Texas state trooper. In 1975, he was directing traffic at the scene of an accident when he was struck by a semi tractor-trailer.

“It hit me just above the knees. Nothing was broken, but I was really bruised up and off a few days,” Rick explains. “My orthopedic surgeon says that injury and age have both contributed to the arthritis. It actually didn’t start giving me a problem until 1999, 25 years after the accident.”

“Massage is a great investment for the benefits you get,” Rick adds. “Not just for the arthritis, but also for the overall relaxation from the deep tissue massage.”

As the U.S. population ages, the number of people developing arthritis is expected to increase. Based on data from 2007 to 2009, the 2010 CDC study found that more than 70 percent of North American adults with arthritis are over 65. An adult is someone 18 or older. Arthritis is more common in women, and it doesn’t discriminate – all races, ethnic groups and cultures are affected.
