Interview The Twenty-Two-Year-Old Bestselling Novelist

BOCA RATON, Fla. - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Exploring the often-misunderstood dichotomy of good and evil, young author Shayne Leighton penned her debut seriesusing elements of her real life to create fantasy. Of Light and Darkness is now a category bestselling series on Amazon, and this weekend, Leighton is celebrating by attending the 1^st annual, Indie Bookfest in Kissimmee, Florida along with other nationally acclaimed authors such as Isaac Marion (Warm Bodies).

“I was inspired to pen this story in my junior year of high school. I was inspired by my childhood and teenage difficulties,” says Leighton.  “Rather than turning to drugs or drinking, I escaped my various life obstacles by diving into my own world of fantasy and magic.  Growing up with a single mother, certain things about my childhood were difficult, and I believed making up my own world to escape was the best outlet for my art.”

Truly believing nothing is impossible, even when things are at their bleakest, Leighton empowers readers with one of her underlying themes – no one is ever truly alone.  And although the story is fictional, it touches on some controversial themes in today’s world – political undercurrents with the warning signs of dark and light magic as well as a controversial romance.

In Leighton’s first year out of high school she penned, co-directed, and starred in the feature film 'The Incubus,' a paranormal romance, which obtained distribution and screened in over fifteen theaters across South Florida among major theater chains such as Regal, AMC, and Cinemark. 'The Incubus' has also obtained a passionate fan base of over 100,000 girls online and has garnered the attention of reporters from the Miami Herald, CBS News, and NPR Radio.

Leighton also starred alongside famed scream queen, Tara Cardinal, in the film 'Legend of the Red Reaper' which will make its world debut at the 2013 Central Florida Film Festival on August 31^st, where Leighton will be in attendance.

Now, 22-year-old Leighton is excited about the recent bestselling status of her debut new adult novel series, Of Light and Darkness, set in contemporary Prague, as well as developing the film adaptation of the novel series starring Michael Welch from the 'Twilight Saga' and Cassie Scerbo from the social media phenomenon, Sharknado!

Shayne Leighton also currently working on her debut rock album, which will be released from the internationally renowned indie label, Spectra Records, sometime in 2014.
