WASHINGTON - July 29, 2013 - PRLog -- More generic drugs came to market and more patients saw doctors due to a mild flu season and decreased out-of-pocket costs from low-deductible health policies and loose coinsurance for specialty drugs.

Spending on new targeted therapies for small patient populations rose dramatically, from $1.3 billion in 2010 to $7 billion, an amount that accounts for almost two-thirds of all outlays last year on new brands. The trend reflects low prices for cancer therapies and orphan drugs, due to newly developed prescriptions.

So far, most public and private healthcare programs are absorbing the cost of treating new patients with serious conditions. Payers are anticipating that expenditures will decline as biopharma companies develop more new treatments for some of the 7000 identified serious conditions.

Biopharma companies are in need of certified sales representatives. With new developments in drug therapy, comes more patients, and more patients will equal more sales.

Current sales rep say that they love the job because "products are generally consumed fairly quickly and not stored, so old markets rarely disappear; they need regular servicing" meaning that once they've made that connection with the doctor, or hospital personnel, it's hard to sever it.

Candidates looking to break into pharmaceutical sales can now do so through hundreds of colleges/universities that offer the CNPR Certification program. There is also an online/self-study version of the program available (directly through the National Association of Pharmaceutical Representatives). Pharmaceutical companies are looking for individuals that possess specific industry education in order to be successful in the sales field.

Individuals that are interested in becoming a Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative(CNPR) can contact the National Association of Pharmaceutical Sales Representatives(NAPSRx) for more information.
