Southeast Hospital Complements Siemens Soarian with E-forms on Demand Solution from Access

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas - July 19, 2013 - PRLog -- When SoutheastHEALTH decided to switch their HIS to Siemens Soarian at Southeast Hospital, the organization decided that it should also improve forms management, and chose an e-forms on demand solution from Access (http://www.accessefm.com/), Siemens’ exclusive e-forms management partner.

“Having used Access at a previous facility, I knew that their solutions would work with Siemens and our other applications,” said Bill Schuster, Business Applications & Customer Service Manager at SoutheastHEALTH. “It’s also easy to design forms and update our existing documents.”

Once a staff member registers a patient in Siemens Soarian, they simply click a button and the Access system generates a packet with barcodes and patient demographics pre-filled.

“The Access system generates forms, labels and wristbands – everything we need at registration – all at once,” Schuster said. “This saves time for registration staff and makes things easier for me, because I only manage one system.”

Schuster was happy with the timeliness of the e-forms implementation in patient registration and the dedicated support he received from Access’s professional services team, which included switching over e-forms to the new environment using Access’s e-Convert tool.

“Our project manager responded quickly to my requests, even after hours,” Schuster said. “With Access, I get answers very quickly.”

Moving from pre-printed forms to e-forms not only simplifies things for registrars, but also for the HIM team (http://accessefm.com/healthcare-solutions/him), which processes completed registration documents.

“Forms barcoding removes the need for manual indexing in HIM because the patient and form IDs are already there on each page,” Schuster said.

Since the initial deployment, Schuster and his colleagues have found new ways to use the Access solution. When a case manager submits a discharge order in the clinical module, an HL7 message goes to the Access system, which automatically fills in the county and state details and prints a list of recommended companies that the patient can contact for DME or home health equipment.

Access is also helping to simplify order set generation. When a staff member places an order in Southeast Hospital’s clinical module, the Access system auto-populates the consent description and other details, removing a manual step.

“We’re able to do a lot of customization to order sets with the Access solution,” Schuster said. “It makes nurses’ job easier because they don’t have to write out details by hand anymore.”

As Southeast Hospital extends its e-forms project further, Schuster is confident that Access will continue to meet expectations.

“I enjoy working with the Access team because they do whatever they can to help me,” he said. “If it can’t be done out of the box, they go to their development team and find a way to make it happen.”
