| 37% of Fleet Managers Invest in TelematicsThirty-seven per cent of fleet managers invested in telematics last year, a survey has shown – while 40% bought hybrid and 28% bought electric vehicles.
By: TrackCompare.co.uk According to the Alphabet Fleet Management Report (2012), the number of organisations setting green fleet targets increased dramatically – up from 45% in 2011 to 79% last year. Public sector fleets were considerably more likely to have invested in technology covered by the survey, and led the way. Figures show 83% of public organisations now have green fleet targets – up from 67% in 2011. This compares with 79% for private firms (38% in 2011). “These figures support our own findings,” said Kjell Anderton, director of TrackCompare. “And, because of the enormous scope for cost savings, plus reductions in fuel usage and emissions, we expect to see a big increase in the number of private firms investing in telematics during the coming year.” The survey shows 81% of fleet managers expect their fleet to grow over the next 12 months, with pool cars the most popular area for investment. More than 30% expect an increase fleet budget to be increased. Paul Hollick, sales and marketing director at Alphabet, said: “Fleet has outperformed the private car market through the recession and the government should carefully consider making sweeping changes to vehicle excise duty, company car tax and capital allowances; especially where it affects the market for ultra-low carbon vehicles, as fleet managers have clearly stated that the cost of going green is a concern. “We wait with interest to see if the government increases the subsidies for electric vehicles to help push the market. Meanwhile, an education job is required to address the misapprehension that switching to greener vehicles is a cost to be written off, when in principle pursuing green fleet policies will deliver cost savings in a number of different areas, especially fuel.” About TrackCompare.co.uk: Launched in 2009, TrackCompare.co.uk has grown quickly to become the UK’s leading vehicle tracking website, representing more than 50 tracking and telematics companies across a wide range of technologies.
