Ciseco turns Raspberry Pi into IoT wireless controller for a tenner

‘Slice of Radio’ plug & play wireless RF transceiver reduces IoT complexity for Raspberry Pi enthusiasts

May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Nottingham, UK - 15 May 2013 - Internet of Things manufacturer Ciseco today announced the launch of its ‘Slice of Radio’ wireless RF transceiver for Raspberry Pi.  The wireless module aims to provide people with an affordable, secure and simple way to create their own Internet of Things (IoT) devices, using the Raspberry Pi as a wireless controller. When used with Ciseco’s Arduino-based XinoRF and RFu products, users can build and even wirelessly programme sensor and actuators direct from the Pi, thereby reducing frustration and complexity.

The ‘Slice of Radio’ two-way RF transceiver is a pre-built plug & play module, which utilises the Raspberry Pi’s on board serial port for communications.  This means that it doesn’t require a driver and will fit inside the most popular Pi cases, such as the Stealth and Pi-Bow.  In addition, the on-board chip antenna provides good performance of up to 200m line of sight and its range can be extended up to 1,000m with an external antenna.

Other key features include:

·         Seamless communications with all of Ciseco’s radio products

·         LED indicators to see what is happening in real time

·         Total code compatibility with the popular Slice of Pi

·         Supports 128bit AES encryption

Miles Hodkinson, CTO of Ciseco, commented: “There is currently no other integrated radio for the Raspberry Pi that fits all the popular Pi cases.  We have built the ‘Slice of Radio’ as there was a clear gap in the market for an affordable, compact and easy to use module to turn a Pi into a wireless server, controller or gateway.  We strongly believe that the module creates new ways to build future technology and will be at the heart of many different projects.  Users will now be able to easily create and manage wireless device networks, without needing to make any modifications to existing hardware.  Looking to the future, you could for example replace the software in your central heating controller without having physical access to it. Ultimately for the IoT to prosper and foster creativity, the technology needs to be as accessible to as many as possible. For us the killer app within IoT is empowering everyday people.”

The ‘Slice of Radio’ costs £9.99 (inc VAT) and can be purchased directly from Ciseco (http://shop.ciseco.co.uk/slice-of-radio-wireless-rf-trans...)  and its reseller partners (http://shop.ciseco.co.uk/resellers/).
