Quintillion improves customer experience by partnering with DNM Technology

With increased demand from the business and a small IT staff it was clear that we needed not just a dynamic production environment, but also a business continuity environment that ensured no downtime.

KIMMAGE, Ireland - May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Quintillion is an independent fund administration company launched in 2006 and based in Dublin’s IFSC. Experienced staff coupled with leading technologies which are deployed in an innovative manner, are at the core of Quintillion’s ability to deliver superior solutions. The service is delivered in a highly automated and paperless environment, using workflow and imaging systems to ensure accuracy and controls are in place at all times. The company must stay on the leading edge in its industry to maintain its reputation, so IT resources are a vital contributor to success.

As innovation is the key to Quintillion’s go to market strategy, the company embraced virtualisation as an early adopter in 2006. The benefits of server consolidation, high availability and dynamic resource allocation, became immediate once the first VMware cluster was implemented by the company’s IT team.

Due to the overwhelming success of the business, it became clear that there was a requirement for a highly available business continuity solution.

Charles Gillanders, CIO of Quintillion, said: “With increased demand from the business and a small IT staff it was clear that we needed not just a dynamic production environment, but also a business continuity environment that ensured no downtime.”  To satisfy these requirements, Quintillion undertook a business continuity project with the following goals:

Continuous availability – minimal disruption to operations even in case of data centre failure

Automated failover and failback of key business applications in the event of a disaster

Cost-efficient method of providing testing environments

Quintillion engaged DNM Technology as their Cloud Integration Consulting partner, to assist with the design and implementation of the new strategy.

As a result, Quintillion implemented a dual data centre strategy where both sites operate with identical resources and can act as production centres if required. Data is continuously replicated using Dell Compellent hardware based SAN mirroring technology, and VMware Site Recovery Manager was implemented to automate failover and failback procedures. In addition, VMware View provides virtual desktops as a business continuity solution for end users.

Charles Gillanders, Quintillion, said: “partnering with DNM ensured Quintillion were able to meet the business demands with a robust infrastructure. We also have a partner that understands our business and how we work.”

Quintillion now has a dynamic and scalable environment that:

• Provides instant automatic failover in the event of a disaster on the primary site,

• Allows Quintillion IT staff move production workloads between sites to allow for scheduled maintenance with no downtime,

• Provides the ability to perform regular disaster recovery tests without disruption for end users with minimal involvement of the IT team.
