Try Minecraft Free - Why not? How does this benefit Mojang?

Minecraft has surpassed 10 millions units sold. Why is it still promoting free versions of minecraft.

NEW YORK - April 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Minecraft has exploded in popularity since its release in 2011. In fact, it had been exploding  in popularity for over a year before that. It made sense that the company behind the game of Minecraft, Mojang AB would offer free versions of their game. This would help to build popularity and a player base. As they finally released the full version of the game those free players would turn into paying players.
Now that Minecraft has sold more than 10 million personal computer games, why are they still offering the game for free? Minecraft is available on smartphones and XBOX 360 as well. The free versions of Minecraft are surprisingly full featured. They offer unlimited gameplay, with all the game elements. One difference is that a player cannot play on "premium" online servers. There are "cracked" or non-premium servers they can play on though.

There is a website, found at http://tryfreeminecraft.org , that allows player to play the game. Players can choose single player or multi player. All without paying a dime or installing suspicious software on their computers. Well one must ask, what worked good at the beginning should continue to work throughout the game's life cycle. Perhaps Minecraft will not have a typical video game life cycle. The game has already defied expectation of even the most optimistic proponents of the block building game.
