Brandon Honda gets Environmental Protection Commission’s Green Star Certification

TAMPA, Fla. - April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Brandon Honda recently qualified as a Green Star Certified auto repair facility by the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County, according to Dee Brack, Service & Parts Director who led the application.

“We’re proud to be one of only 19 auto repair facilities out of 1,200 in the county that are currently Green Star Certified,” said Brack. “By the very nature of the auto repair business, we have exposure to many environmental pollutants every day. The entire service and parts team did a great job of modifying our processes to qualify for the certification, so that we can do our part to better protect the environment for future generations.”

The aim of the Environmental Protection Commission’s guidelines for the Green Star Program for auto repair facilities is to find responsible ways to contain, control, and dispose of automotive pollutants, using Best Management Practices and Pollution Prevention Strategies. Pollutants such as used oil, waste antifreeze, certain types of aerosol spray cleaners, mercury in fluorescent and HID lamps and automobile switches, waste tires, and batteries must all be correctly handled by trained personnel, stored properly in labeled containers, and disposed of in very specific ways—in some cases by licensed personnel. Auto parts are pre-cleaned to reduce the amount of water or solvents consumed in parts washers. All training and procedures must be documented and verified by the EPC.
